One of our members, Arden Court, is a passionate history teacher with KCI and believes it is vital for students to learn about our past. In a few short days, 60 Waterloo Region students and 7 chaperones will embark on an EF Battlefields Tour community trip. The students (ages 15 - 17) will learn more about Canadian history and specifically the sacrifice Canadians have made over the past 120 years to help guarantee the freedoms our country enjoys today. They will be visiting Berlin, Amsterdam, Ypres, Juno Beach, Vimy Ridge and Paris throughout their 10-day tour. They will also be stopping at cemeteries, memorials, former battlefields, museums and even a Concentration Camp from WWII. By visiting the sites and having local experts explain their importance, it will have incredible value to the students. The Royal Canadian Legion is committed to ensuring the traditions of Remembrance remains relevant to and supported by younger generations. Waterloo Legion has proudly partnered with Arden in this initiative, and we have donated 4 wreaths and poppies to support Commemorative Ceremonies that they will hold at selected stops along the way. We have also used some of our Lottery Account funds and have outfitted each student and chaperone with a smartly designed sweater, proudly representing Canada and the Waterloo Legion Branch #530 Watch for shared photos of their adventures!
